"How might a close reading of a text result in the making of a solid object? What meaning does critical thinking and researching experience give to the exercise of making sculpture?"

This piece, with words casted in 7 two-part molds, is based on Italo Calvino’s Thin Cities 4, Sophronia, from his book Invisible Cities. Words selected were carousel, roller coaster, ferris wheel, Ministry, monument, docks, and permanent/temporary, and they are casted in original placement on the one page that describes the two half-cities Sophronia. Each two-part mold resembles the book in scale. The equal treatment of seemingly contrary words alienates our reaction towards them, and raises questions about the permanence and temporality of human creations in our living environment.
